A NOTE FOR NEWCOMERS TO CA
You do not need to be an expert in CA to participate in CARDIT 2026.
CARDIT 2026 values learning how to see, analyze, teach, and assess interaction using CA-informed perspectives.
Rationale & Background
Conversation Analysis (CA) is a research methodology originating in sociology that has been widely applied across disciplines such as linguistics, education, communication studies, anthropology, health sciences, and language education. CA investigates how humans, as social beings, systematically use spoken language, gaze, gesture, and other embodied resources to organize interaction.
Internationally, CA is widely recognized for making interaction visible, analyzable, teachable, and assessable. It has contributed substantially to innovations in language pedagogy and teacher professional development by grounding practices in empirical evidence from real interaction.
In Thailand, CA research remains largely concentrated in EFL contexts. A major challenge is limited access to specialized training. CARDIT 2026 aims to bridge this gap by bringing together scholars and practitioners to discuss innovative perspectives on communication.
Under the theme “Innovative Perspectives on Communication: CA-Informed Language Education for Teaching and Assessing Interaction”, the symposium foregrounds interaction as the primary site for language learning.
